Venner is a contemporary Australian restaurant guided by Scandinavian principles.
We cook with Nordic discipline and an Australian respect for produce. Ingredients lead, technique follows, and only the requisite elements reach the plate.
At its heart, Venner is about friendship. Friends who grow our food, craft our tools, shape our room and sit at our tables. We honour them by cooking with honesty, clarity and care.
Eat
At Venner, the menu is shaped by season, produce and a distinctly Nordic way of thinking. The kitchen draws inspiration from Scandinavian dishes and methods such as preservation, fermentation, smoke, restraint and balance, interpreted through Australian ingredients and landscapes. Techniques are used with purpose rather than decoration, allowing flavour, texture and contrast to speak clearly. Ingredients lead. Technique follows. Every element on the plate earns its place.
You can expect food that feels considered rather than complicated. Dishes reference Nordic traditions without replicating them, grounded in what is available and prepared with respect for both origin and ingredient. The menu changes regularly and reflects close relationships with growers, farmers and producers. It is not about constant novelty, but about clarity, progression and intention. Venner sits between the polish of fine dining and the intimacy of a kitchen table. Thoughtful, deliberate and welcoming.
À la carte or set menu?
We offer both.
The set menu is the clearest expression of the kitchen’s thinking and is recommended for those who want to experience the full narrative of the menu. À la carte is available for more flexible visits or a lighter experience.
Menus evolve with the seasons and availability.
Drink
The drinks program at Venner is guided by the same principles as the kitchen. Fermentation, balance and restraint sit at its core, with house ferments, preserves and seasonal infusions playing a quiet supporting role throughout the menu. Aquavit anchors the cocktail offering, drawing on Scandinavian tradition, alongside a small selection of considered drinks built for clarity and purpose. Cocktails are precise rather than expressive, designed to sit comfortably at the table.
The wine list is tight and thoughtful, shaped around organic and biodynamic producers working with transparency and a strong sense of place. Minimal intervention wines sit alongside more classic references, selected for balance, structure and how they pair with the food. The list evolves regularly, informed by season, availability and close relationships with growers and importers.
